What does it mean to have an open Action Plan?

You and your Career Advisor (also called your Case Manager) agree on appropriate activities, workshops, and appointments to make you self-sufficient in your job search. You sign and commit to carrying out the plan within a specified time frame.

The plan stays open while you are actively working on the activities and staying in touch with your Career Advisor (Case Manager).

An open Action Plan is required to attend workshops and appointments with your Career Advisor. An open Action Plan is also a prerequisite for other federally funded employment programs such as training, wage subsidy, Job Creation Partnerships, and the Self-Employment Program.

When do we close your plan?

Ideally, your plan is closed when you have completed the activities and are able to conduct a self-directed job search. It is also closed if you find employment before completing the plan.

We are also required to close your action plan when your Career Advisor (Case Manager) is unable to contact you or if you are no longer actively pursuing the plan. It is your responsibility to stay in touch with your Career Advisor (Case Manager) and keep him/her informed of your progress. This may be done by phone, email, or by booking and attending an appointment. Please note that coming into the Job Shop to use the computers or other services does not satisfy our contact requirement; you must have direct contact with your Career Advisor (Case Manager).

If circumstances will prevent you from completing your planned activities within the agreed upon timeframes, please contact your Career Advisor (Case Manager). He/she will discuss with you whether to extend the timeframe or close the plan.

What happens after my plan is closed?

After your plan is closed, you are welcome to use our basic services – fax, phone, computers, job board, and Resource Library. It may also be beneficial to attend the Networking Group which is held on Wednesdays at 1:30.

If you require the assistance of a Career Advisor after your plan is closed, please call him/her to discuss the possibility of starting a new Action Plan. If you find employment and then become unemployed again, you are welcome to come back and open a new Action Plan.

If your plan is closed and you have applied for training, wage subsidy, or the Self-Employment Program, you would have to reapply to those programs. Your eligibility would be rechecked at that time, and may have expired. In that case, you would no longer be eligible for the program.
